Lab member benefits

Develop a research portfolio.

With the Digital Apothecary, you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of impressive research projects. Our members’ current projects address a wide breadth of topics and take on many different shapes — learn more about them here. As a member of the DA lab, you would also be able to offer new ideas for research and collaborate with other lab members to materialize them.

Make a real difference.

The Digital Apothecary lab follows a community-based participatory research model (CBPR) which seeks to prioritize community members and ameliorate community concerns through the research process. This model challenges social, structural, and physical environmental inequities by holding researchers and community stakeholders as equals in research. Under CPBR, lab members have the opportunity to help their communities through social action.

Learn how to work in a vibrant team setting.

Members of the DA Lab come from a variety of backgrounds and interests, tied together by their passion for social justice research. In the lab, our work is informed by the ethics of pace, rejecting the perpetual capitalistic push for efficiency. This means sustainable work routines, limiting lab waste, and practicing mindfulness to ensure that members are not harmed by their participation in the DA.

Get hands-on mentorship.

The Digital Apothecary is dedicated to effective mentorship in which both mentees and mentors are actively engaged. Members of the DA Lab have created a template for mentors and mentees to help guide their understanding of mutual goals and expectations for the mentorship. With this foundation, all members are able to move forward in the DA’s dynamic mentorship process.
